The Great Gatsby

  《The Great Gatsby》是一本由F. Scott.

  《The Great Gatsby》

●Guess Nick, the 'I' in this novel, is a gay and falls in love with Gatsby. We beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

●we are lost. we are the beats.

  ●the best of the best!

●Very good story, but a little bit difficult for non native speaker to read.

  《The Great Gatsby》

  The Great Gatsby

  F.Scott Fitzgerald

  - Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her; If you can bounce high, bounce for her too, Till she cry “lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover, I must have you!”

  - “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world have had the advantages that you’ve had.”

  “当你要评论某人的时候,” 他告诫我 “一定要记得,不是这世上所有人都拥有过你曾经享有的优势。”

  - Reserving judgments is a matter of infinite hope.

  - I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.

  - Sometimes they came and went without having met Gatsby at all. Came for the party with a simplicity of heart that was its own ticket of admission.

  - He had waited five years and bought a mansion where he dispensed starlight to casual moths, so that he could come over some afternoon to a stranger’s garden.

  - There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired.

《The Great Gatsby》读后感(二):A Curse to the Fallen Golden Age

It is a story of those who's talented but poor, who with dream, love and faith to accuse those rich but shallow people.

The life of Gatsby is profoundly tragic. But because of this tragedy, his life is made great. A born nobody fallen for the brightest star of the mid-west. To his surprise the blooms blossom girl also took an interest in him. His pain and troubles all seemed paid off when we heard of Daisy's struggles, fights and tears. The blinking green light across the Sound through the dark representing Gatsby's one and only true dream, those luxurious parties that he threw just to lure Daisy to the door, those off-the-table fraudulent business dealings he made to get rich and eventually the blame he took to save Daisy from the disgrace...

ut is Daisy worth it? For Gatsby to give up his talent and limitless future just for this one girl? She's vain. Though she might have loved Gatsby, she only put on a show when it's time to merry Tom. She's coward, though she might have been nervous when she hit and run, she let Gatsby took all the fall and bury the truth.Eventually she proved to be heartless - not even a word after Gatsby's death; not even show up to his funeral. She's no better than Tom, for even him shed a few tears for his mistress after her unexpected sudden death.

As one of the greatest writers of contemporary US, Fitzgerald avoided to be melodramatic and severe to the very society that he grew on and thrived in. So he blamed Tom and Daisy's careless for the death of Gatsby. But from the story I sense his anger and he blames the society, which twisted the moral compass of people, lead them off the path to destruction. Fitzgerald was like a prophet to announce the fall of the golden age of the 1920s. It's like the sudden dismiss of Gatsby's great parties, glorious like heaven, but fallen like hell. Subtly, he put his curse on the world...

  《The Great Gatsby》读后感(三):the Great Gatsby透析

  书名:the Great Gatsby

F.Scott Fitzgerald

(我是看过小李演这部电影,看的快睡着OMG)以下是我透析出来80个的单词或词组:grotesque,limousine,gutter,fumble,clustered,thereabout,fellas,priest,disapprove of,irresistible,porch,pervade,tiptoe,collapsed,incoherent,damp,flirtation,revolting,gibberish,julep,sensuous,profound,ale,withdrawn,with an effort,crisp,relinquish,obligation,old sport,cocktail,oppressivene.startled,remification,store up,pompadour,toppled down,exultation,murmur,vaguely,obliged,elaborate,rumors,stretch out,acquaintance,electocuted,roaring,Motenegro,restrain,sentence,gamble,perspiration,gayety,wreck,engaged in,condescension,lull,altered.lawn,orchestra,clad in.simultaneous,triumphantly,imply,slender,solemn,news-stand,stir up,intimation,corroborate,utterly,fragment,butler,civilization,snap out,compel from,buoyed up,drift on,epigram,inclined。

开篇第二段话是很好的鸡汤文字:“whenever you feel like criticizing any one,"he told me,"just remember that all the people in the world haven't had the advantages that you've had."[当你想要去批评谴责别人的时候,只要想想,这个世界上不是所有人都有和你一样的优点的。]

I liked to walk up Fifth Avenue and pick out romantic women from the crowd and imagine that in a few minutes I was going to enter into their lives, and no one would ever know or disapprove[我喜欢走在第五大道上,从人群中挑选一个浪漫的女人,想象一下,在几分钟内我将走入他们的生活,没有人会知道,也不管他们是否同意]

我觉得这是作者萌萌的在骗稿费哈哈哈哈哈哈—I doubt if he had any other home. Of theatrical people there were Gus Waize and Horace O’donavan and Lester Meyer and George Duckweed and Francis Bull. Also from New York were the Chromes and the Backhyssons and the Dennickers and Russel Betty and the Corrigans and the Kellehers and the Dewars and the Scullys and S. W. Belcher and the Smirkes and the young Quinns, divorced now, and Henry L. Palmetto, who killed himself by jumping in front of a subway train in Times Square.

I wanted to get somebody for him. I wanted to go into the room where he lay and reassure him: “I’ll get somebody for you, Gatsby. Don’t worry. Just trust me and I’ll get somebody for you——”[我想要找人过来参加葬礼,我想要走进他躺着的屋子,反复告诉他:我会找到人的,盖茨比,别担心,相信我,我会找到人,来参加你的葬礼的。]

  《The Great Gatsby》读后感(四):Dream Is a Dream

The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald. It is a story about the man Gatsby.

Gatsby was a poor boy who was falling in love with the beautiful rich girl Daisy. Before he came back from the army, Daisy married to a rich man Tom. Gatsby tried his best to being rich, and he did it. He bought a big house, and he held big party every night, just for met Daisy again. Luckily or unluckily, through two person, Gatsby met Daisy. Daisy tried to stay with Gatsby, because of the goodness of Gatsby, instead of love. One day, Daisy drove car carelessly, killed Tom’s lover Myrtle. Gatsby was made the scapegoat by himself, been killed by Myrtle’s husband.

In my opinion, the theme of The Great Gatsby is that dream is a dream. You cannot catch the things which do not belong to you, whatever how hard you worked.

Gatsby used his whole life to love Daisy. He did so many things that moved everyone including Daisy. But Daisy could not leave her husband Tom to respond the love. Actually, Daisy did not love Gatsby anymore, maybe because she is selfish and flimsy, nevertheless, she didn’t love Gatsby. Even Gatsby dead for her, Daisy didn’t feel anything as love.

Gatsby would never know that there was not only love and money between Daisy and him, but also the trouble of wall. The wall was hardly to cross. Gatsby has never think of that, he just tried his best to make him become closer to Daisy than before.

You cannot catch the things which do not belong to you, whatever how hard you worked. Maybe we just cannot get something we really want, whatever how much you want to get it and how many times do you try. When you need other one, the one will make you despair.

When sometimes we cannot get the stuff, I do not know whether we should give up or not. Maybe, we all should learn to give up the thing we really want, and that is so sad.

Then, let us talking about the major characters of this book.

First of all, Gatsby. Gatsby is a hardworking man. He always works hard, and tries his best, whatever for being rich or love Daisy. But he never knows that hardworking cannot always give you the thing you want.

econdly, Daisy. Daisy is thought selfish and flimsy by a lot of people. But in my opinion, maybe Daisy is just a normal woman with some mistakes. She loved a poor man G, agreed to wait for the man but actually did not do it. She became rich man T’s wife. When G became rich and came back, she found that herself still remember this guy, so she enjoyed some time with him. But she know that she had a family. Even though her husband didn’t love her, she would not leave him. When G dead for her mistake, she didn’t do anything and enjoyed the time with her husband. But what can we ask for her? Asking her to choose death? Asking her to leave her husband and family?

Maybe the biggest mistake of Daisy is that when she met Gatsby again, she should told Gatsby that she had family she wanted and she didn’t love Gatsby more than her family.

Let us talk about the writing skill of this book. The story is told in the first person by Nick Carraway, a quiet young Midwesterner. Nick leaves home to do business in New York City. He rents a small house in West Egg and next door to his house is the enormous house of Mr. Gatsby. One evening, Nick dines with a distant cousin, Daisy and gets to know her husband Tom and Jordan Baker, an attractive young golfer.

ick saw the whole story, and wrote down it. That gives us another way to look at this story. And writer can use Nick to tell his own opinion. That is really a good skill in writing novel.

At last,I want to say that Gatsby did the things which he wanted to do, so did Daisy.

You can try your best to catch your dream, but you could not make others to being a part of your dream, whatever how hard your working.
