“最费解的悬疑小说,最出色的智力狂欢
比《盗梦空间》更刺激的意识犯罪”
这牛逼吹的也太大了!
任何一个看过美剧《犯罪心理》或《别对我撒谎》的人,都会对这种水准的悬疑小说嗤之以鼻。
和《盗梦空间》比较,《杀人诗咒》无论是创意本身还是其中涉及的心理学内容,都明显逊色。即使是作为本书最大卖点的读心术也都已经臭大街了。
从行文可以看出作者:约翰•弗登受斯蒂芬·金的影响很大,可是由于缺乏斯蒂芬·金那种密不透风黑云压城般的掌控文字能力,本书的心灵救赎和复仇两大线索弥散着一种日式推理的罗嗦,当然也就不要奢谈什么鲜明的人物形象了。
不值得你浪费时间。
《杀人诗咒》读后感(二):平庸之作
300多页的书,经过家短里长的一番铺陈,足足拖到了第99页才死了第一个人,可见本书节奏之迟缓。虽然后半段剧情推进开始加快,但仍然改变不了整体平铺直叙的软肋。作者文笔细腻,有大量细致入微的人物心理描写,角色情感的刻画也真实动人,或许作者写纯文学会更有看点。诡计简单实用,却缺乏惊喜,即使最后与真凶面对面的对决,也没渲染出太多惊心动魄的气氛,但适合拍成电影,标准的好莱坞犯罪片模式。同时关于雪地足迹消失的诡计,本书只解释了一半就不了了之,最后都没有给出完整的解答,算是一致命大bug。至于真凶身份并不难猜,除了文中那条线索很明显以外,为何选择那个邮寄地址的理由,只要学福尔摩斯那句“排除其他一切不可能之后,余下最后一个可能便是真相”,真凶身份便呼之欲出了。至于文案那句“这本书有理科背景的人方可阅读”忽悠谁呢?案件跟理科半毛关系都没有。

变态凶手对诗歌情有独钟,一首首滴血短诗,一次次数字游戏,被害人如杀人恶魔掌中玩物,日日恐惧,夜夜难安,心理受尽折磨后残忍被害
冷血连环杀手故意留下千般线索,警察却百分百猜不到答案,分明是一场猫玩老鼠的屈辱游戏。
退休侦探原本平凡简单、远离变态犯罪的日子被前来求助的警官彻底打破,过去的伤口猛然撕裂,夫妻情感再一次面临风暴侵袭。

仅仅是做浓缩剧情的介绍,包括谜团,真相,作者运用的诡计等,严重泄底
格尼是明星警探,被誉为纽约破案率最高的侦探,亲手抓到过许多连环杀手。退休后和妻子住在乡村。突然有一天,许久没有联系的大学同学马克·梅勒瑞打来电话,诉说自己收到神秘信件,并找他帮忙。在格尼调查的过程中,事件逐渐升级
1,马克收到的第一封信,成功预料到马克心中想到的数字658。并要求寄出289.87美元到一个邮箱(现金支票均可)
2,之后马克陆续收到3封诗歌,格尼判断马克可能会有生命危险,但是马克不愿意报警
3,马克接到“寄信人”的电话,电话中又让马克玩读心游戏,马克说了“19”,之后按照指示去自家邮箱发现了新的信件,又一次料到这个“19”
4,支票被退回,邮箱主人是一个个人安全系统公司,主人是德莫特。他表示不认识马克,也不认识“寄信人”。
最后一天,悲剧终于发生,马克被发现了死在自己的楼下。并一样留下了诗歌,这次却是向警察宣战。
格尼作为关系人和顾问,加入了破案小组帮忙。竟然意外获得其他案件和马克案有关的线索。在另外的地方也发生了凶手案,被害者是施米特,同样是有过酗酒经历,同样的尸体状态(脖子被利器插了数次)。而之后德莫特提供的信息佐证了这个判断。
第二个被害者施米特也曾经记过289.87美元的支票,更令人震惊的事实,还有第三站支票,支票的主人是理查德·卡奇。之后卡奇的尸体也被发现,他也是一个酗酒者。这时候格尼判断,受害人可能不止3个人,可能案件在更早时候就发生了。
读心术解谜
“19”之谜,真相是“犯人”就在马克的屋子旁边,当马克说出19之后,犯人当场填到给马克的信放入他的邮箱。
“658”之谜,犯人通过某种手段获得一份酗酒介护名单,给其中所有人都寄出了相同的信件(5000~15000封)。都猜658,总有概率有人猜到数字,然后猜到数字的人如果寄支票,犯人就能知道具体是谁中了他的圈套。
德莫特告诉格尼,自己也收到了奇怪的诗歌,于是格尼找人让那里的警察去保护德莫特,结果保护他人的警察被害。并出现了直接威胁“德莫特和格尼”的诗歌。格尼赶到德莫特的屋子,和当地警方汇合。从德莫特的口中知道,这个屋子原主人,父亲酗酒,并用酒瓶刺伤了母亲。之后被逮捕,孩子被收养,母亲没死但是接受治疗。这就是为什么凶手选择这个屋子的邮箱作为收件地址的原因。
而当年的小孩,就是德莫特,他改名换姓买回了原来的房子。他的工作,数据安全,可以接触到业务公司的机密数据,所以他获得了“酗酒人员”清单,实施了这起案件。而最后了,德莫特设计想要杀掉在他屋子的所有警察(因为当地警察当时没有保护母亲,而且施暴的父亲本身就是警察),最后被格尼制服。故事结束。
故事使用了格尼的单视角叙述,按照剧情顺序发展。主诡计是读心术,谜面具备古典推理的味道,属于“不可能犯罪”。解谜算是中规中矩,稍微动下脑筋,也能想到“658”的谜底,而作者巧妙的借人物之口,阐述了这个谜底的执行方法。减弱了读者对可行性的疑惑,算是相当高明的处理。
整个剧情进展在第二部开始极快,迅速展开到了“连环杀人”的部分,又增加了“动机”和“被害者之间的共同点”这两个新的谜团,所以当“读心术”解开后,读者依然被作者牵着鼻子想要继续探究接下来的剧情。而当真凶现身的时候,读者的注意力又集中在主角如何脱困并制服凶手。作为作者的处女作,在引导读者情绪和阅读节奏方面相当高明。
真凶到后期已经几乎呼之欲出了,因为出场人物虽然多,但是很多角色用过即丢(比如和马克相关的出场角色),所以基本上最后能锁定是“德莫特”,关键是whydunit。
我其实一度设想真凶会不会是格尼的老婆玛德琳,动机是格尼无论是退休前还是退休后都沉迷工作,嫌少关心家庭,所以为了引起老公的关心自己成为连环杀手。但是随着“酗酒”成为“连环杀人”的线索之后,我就放弃这个设想了。
玛德琳的线,其实是一条关于格尼家庭的暗线。但是和其他欧美作品不一样,这条线非常克制,篇幅非常少。而且很多地方还会直接影响格尼的破案(好几次格尼和玛德琳谈论案情,或者从玛德琳哪里获得灵感)暗线主要是,格尼沉迷工作,退休后还沉迷犯罪者照片的二次创作,疏忽了家庭和玛德琳。但是即使这样,虽然有怨言,但是玛德琳依然一直在格尼身边。作者没有写在明面上,但是读者自己能感受出来。
不得不说,就以“杀人诗咒”所展现的内容,包括不可能诡计,剧情铺陈展开,还是人物的感情线,都让人惊叹。绝对是值得阅读的佳作。
《杀人诗咒》读后感(五):能看原文的还是看原文吧
这篇书评很难写,一是因为时间太久了,当初有太多的想法,现在忘记了大半,不知从何写起。
作为一个极少关注悬疑小说侦探小说的读者(我的兴趣一向都在历史小说和奇幻小说上),从情节设计的角度来写书评肯定是再外行不过,会让大家笑掉大牙。
作为一个以《荆棘鸟》的译者为终身榜样的小翻译,从语言和翻译的角度来写书评会像写论文一样无聊,何况我已经把它写进了毕业论文,不想重复做功。
想来想去,我只能从喜欢的方面和不喜欢的方面来评评这个故事。
Think of a Number的最大优点是精雕细琢的语言,这一点我个人认为在现代欧美文学中已经不常见了。作者为读者描述了美国东北部山区的景色,那种简约却厚重的美,美得让人屏息静气;作者为读者描述了主人公内心的所感所想,真实得句句都触动着读者的心;作者还在文字间插述了一些犯罪心理学的内容,将故事深入到人文关怀的层面上。如果从认知的角度来看,文学语言的作用即是将作者的所见所感诉诸于刻意挑选的文字,让读者阅读后见作者所见,感作者所感。这一点,John Verdon很成功。刚开始阅读时,我对作者是一万分的惋惜——他有高超的语言驾驭能力,还有对社会对人类的深刻思考,为什么偏偏要拿如此俗不可耐的题材创作!(实在抱谦,我对此类小说抱有不可饶恕的偏见)
第二个优点是对人物的塑造。有点儿狄更斯化,但不得不承认,几个性格迥异、矛盾突出的人物放在一起,非常极其已经特别的有喜感。只有格尼、玛德琳、克拉姆、纳多看着还算正常,剩下的人物中,警监和“克鲁斯”兄弟太愚蠢,思拉舍和哈德威克玩世不恭,梅勒瑞太虚假,霍尔登菲尔德太高傲,克兰则是个典型的政客。既然我没有把本书划入严肃的经典文学队列中,多些有喜感的人物我毫不介意,反而认为是突出的优点。
第三个优点就是故事中铺设得恰到好处的悬疑了。不过,鉴于我是那种从不介意别人剧透、自己还经常给自己剧透的人,长久以来我已经对各种小说中的悬念没有了感觉,好的悬念不会让我手不释卷挑灯夜读,坏的悬念如果书中的其他方面有优点我也不会觉得读来味同嚼蜡。说了这么多废话,我只是想表达这第三个优点可能在许多人看来根本不是优点,因为我在这方面已经没有了判断力。
说完了优点,也要说说缺点。
有个地方我一直认为有破绽。就是鞋底调过来的那段,人的鞋底又不是前后长得一样,一般都是前头比较宽,后头比较窄,如果真是从另一双鞋上剪下的鞋底倒过来贴在原来那双鞋的鞋底上,窄的那头就变宽了,宽的那头会覆盖不住,应该能在雪地上留下印记才对,为啥情节里没提这个细节?难道这个牌子的雪地靴鞋底前后长得一个样?
再有就是,其实情节稍微有点儿俗……尤其是结尾,心理变态的坏蛋要死翘翘,英雄则胜利归来,从此对人生和近在咫尺的幸福更加珍惜,blah, blah, blah……
剩下几个缺点并非针对作者,而是针对翻译。
首先是诗歌翻译得非常极其以及特别的烂。不知是不是受过刺激,我小时候特别不喜欢诗歌,老师讲诗歌,我就左耳朵进右耳朵出,课下向来只看小说,对诗歌从不关注。直到念大学的时候才知道诗歌的奥妙,可惜因为专业的原因,只懂了英语诗歌的那些事儿,对汉语诗歌的平仄对仗韵脚还只停留在高中那会儿涂鸦般对付作业时写的几幅对联上。于是,整本书中不超过十首的小诗轻而易举地就让我杯了具——等我发现需要恶补汉语诗创作技巧的时候,时间已经不允许了:我要同时对付老师指派的presentations、周末往返三个小时回家、还要保证每天两千英文字的翻译量。原诗有些对仗非常工整,有些则更近于打油诗。打油诗我勉强对付得来,但对aabbccdd肚子里墨水甚少的我就完全麻了爪,其结果就是我直接毁掉了在情节中占很重要地位的诗。
每个翻译都知道,当时翻译完是看不出问题的,需要像过滤水碱一样镇静个一年半载,再看时,就可以发现这样或那样的问题,这里多个“的”字,那里少个“了”字,某个长句应该分为短句表述,某个段落翻译腔很重,等等。虽然一年之后读来还没有那种痛恨自己水平太臭的撕书情绪,但在读到一些段落或句子时我确实十万分地羞愧。思果的书里提到过,把一本好书翻译坏了是译者的罪过。这是一本好书,而我正是罪人。在此向想读此书、正在读此书和已经读过此书的读者郑重道歉。
最后补一句,这本书和盗梦空间根本没有可比性,完全是南辕北辙的两码事。Think of a Number没有那种华丽丽的逻辑推理过程,也没有宏大惊人的场面。它只是一个以普通的情感、普通的生活和出乎意料的悬疑机关来吸引读者的故事。建议阅读时,请把任何与盗梦空间有关的内容排除出脑海。

.S. 7月12日,兰登书屋旗下的皇冠出版社刚刚出版了Think of a Number的续作,给了我一个大大的惊喜,虽然我去年查资料时就得知John Verdon一下签了三本小说的合同,都以Gurney为主角,但一年一本的写作速度还是让我吃了一惊,回头看看我写论文的速度,真是惭愧羞愧以及愧得无地自容。坚定地打算继续追下去,不过以自己的财力,铁定是要等到明年出简装版才能买了(好在今年有冰与火之歌垫底儿,五大砖头般的厚本,不至于馋Verdon的书到望眼欲穿的痛苦地步)。此书名为 “Shut Your Eyes Tight”。
