由于我国的应试教育模式，在国内读三年高中，往往只是为了应付高考而被动地学习一些自己没有兴趣的科目，高分低能的例子比比皆是。特别是高三，基本就是为应付考试而学习。出国读高中，可以避开高考的压力，用宝贵的时间学习更实用的知识、语言，了解社会、文化。
相比而言，国外的中学教育更强调联系实际，也鼓励动手实践。如果在我们良好的基础教育上，再去国外的中学学习，无疑是种很好的互补。除了学术课，学校还有丰富的课外活动和社团活动。内容涉及体育、艺术、文化、科技等方面，可以培养和开发多种兴趣。
