The past decade has witnessed a shift that people are more willing to shop online instead of purchasing in physical stores, thanks to the Internet. A recent survey conducted by an Internet consumer research centre displays different reasons why people choose online shopping, as well as consumers’ primary concerns.

Based on the first chart, we can see that half people prefer online shopping mainly due to the abundant goods resources, followed by the “relatively lower prices” and “no limitations on space or time”, accounting for 38% and 17% respectively. From my perspective, these three factors are exactly the edge of online shopping over the traditional way. Something maybe unavailable in your city can be sent to your home with a simple click on the mouse, enjoying an even lower price.

However, there are inevitably some shortcomings that consumers worry about. As is portrayed in the pie chart, the quality of goods is sometimes without guarantee. Hence, to avoid being upset by the poor quality, I suggest that we consumers should choose more reliable stores instead of those with few transaction records or bad comments. In addition, attracted by the low price, consumers might overlook its potential defects; so many people sell the fake with a low price, hoping to catch others’ eyes. This is another noteworthy trap we should bear in mind.

To conclude, online shopping can definitely be a key element of the progress of our daily life as long as we make more sensible choices.
