　　在作者笔下人们的道德标尺不知道该如何丈量了。随着故事的情节的展开，你会不自觉的认为其实**的理由有时可以理解。为了维护自由、生存、亲情、金钱和尊严一个男人有时必须残忍。老教父说出的那句话让我很感动：“我一辈子谨小慎微，为了保护我的家庭。女人和孩子可以粗心，可男人不行”。一个男人的作为丈夫和父亲的责任心，没有什么比这更可贵了。当法律不能给予人们合理、平等和公正那么人们就会变得疯狂，病态的社会会产生各种病态的现象。

　　维托考利昂是一个神化的人物，社会上没有他摆不平的人和事，当然这些目的达成，有些人心愿的满足背后可能会有血淋淋事实，而他所做的事又是那么合情合理。他看上去象绅士一样温文尔雅，这个沉稳冷静的他既睿智又仁慈，深得周围人的爱戴和敬仰。教父的每一句话都象是圣经中的箴言，他的老练沉稳机智狡诈，他那出其不意的报复，都显示出这是个地道的意大利人，精于人性和筹谋。作者假借考里昂这个角色对整个美国社会制度发起了抨击，体现着个体与社会的矛盾，可以说在书中人们都是多情的，即很想实现自己的愿望；但是社会却是无情的，它告诉你，你的途径要么是中**，要么就是违法，以牺牲大量人的利益来满足自己的利益，这种矛盾贯穿始终。“在他的笔下，一个本来令人感到义愤填膺的情节却显得那么合情合理……”。就是利益，教父抓住这条放之四海皆准的准绳，游刃有余地翻云覆雨。

　　很多人在走完一生的时候总是力图想看看自己的人生有没有遗憾，希望知道自己在人生的每个岔道口是不是都选择了正确的方向，但往往不会有答案。教父，他之所以能成为教父，是因为他并没有等到迟暮之年才领悟选择对人生是何等重要。“一个人只有一个命运”，这句座右铭使他注定成为一个不平凡的人！成败兴衰，靠命运，也靠努力，但归根结蒂，是对自己人生道路清醒认识后的选择。

　　维托考利昂在卸任后一直过着田园式的生活，临死时说的最后一句话“生活是这样的美丽”这个睿智的老人好象要告诉我们简单其实是一种幸福。
